About Holychildmusic

A Drywall Shop That Thinks About Noise First

Holychildmusic is a drywall outfit working out of Jurupa Ave in the 92504 ZIP, covering Riverside and the towns along the 91 and the 60. We hang board, we tape and finish it, and we match texture. The part of the trade we have ended up known for is quieter than that: rebuilding interior walls so they stop sound they were never framed to stop.

That specialisation came from the housing stock rather than from a business plan. A lot of Riverside is slab on grade tract building with single layer half inch board on shared studs, which is a perfectly good wall and a poor sound barrier. Then somebody converts a garage into an office, or turns a back bedroom into a nursery, and discovers what a shared stud line actually transmits.

How We Approach the First Visit

We look for leaks before we talk about assemblies. Back to back electrical boxes, an unsealed top plate, a shared return duct and a door with a half inch gap under it will together let more sound through than the wall itself. Sealing those is cheap and it is honest to do it first, because on some jobs it is enough and the customer keeps their money.

If it is not enough, the next question is whether the complaint is speech or bass. Speech responds well to added mass and damping, which we can do as a layover with no demolition. Low frequency needs the two faces of the wall mechanically separated with clips and channel, which costs more and takes an inch or so off the room. We would rather have that conversation before you spend than after.

Standards We Work To

Screw spacing, joint staggering and corner bead go in the way the board manufacturer specifies, not the way that is fastest. Garage firewalls and ceilings under habitable space get Type X board and the finish level the assembly requires, and we will not skip that on a conversion because it is out of sight. Ceiling texture on a house from before the early nineteen eighties gets tested before anything disturbs it, and we do not start work on a popcorn ceiling without the result in hand.

The Finish

A job is not done until the repair stops being visible. In dry inland air mud sets faster than the tubs suggest, which is an advantage on schedule and a trap on a wide feather if you rush it. We work to that, match orange peel and knockdown by test board, and leave a wall that does not read as a patch under a lamp.
